Weekend Box Office Top Ten - 4/21/19

Weekend Box Office Top Ten:

THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA opened at #1 with a strong $26.5M (Million) domestic, and $56.5M worldwide. Produced for only $9M plus marketing, this horror film is already profitable for WB, in another win for James Wan and THE CONJURING franchise, in which this is an original spin-off from.

SHAZAM! is #2 with $17.3M, a domestic total of $121.3M, and $322.8M worldwide. Produced for $90M plus marketing, this one is nicely profitable for WB, with a sequel and BLACK ADAM spinoff already announced, as the DC brand continues to be strong with audiences.

BREAKTHROUGH is #3 with $11.1M and a total of $14.6M from Fox, a decent number for a smaller budget faith-based drama, with a modest marketing campaign. This should prove decently profitable.

CAPTAIN MARVEL held at #4 with $9.1M, a domestic total of $400M, and a global haul of $1.089 Billion for Disney and Marvel Studios.

LITTLE slid to #5 with $8.4M, and a total of $29.3M. Produced for $20M plus marketing, this should prove profitable for Universal.

DUMBO is #6 with $6.8M, a domestic total of $101.2M, and a worldwide total of $307.8M. Produced for $170M plus marketing, this Disney film will be a sharp financial loss for the studio given its pricetag.

PET SEMATARY is #7 with $4.8M, a domestic total of $49.5M, and $95.6M worldwide. By next weekend, this horror hit from Paramount will pass the $100M mark globally, all on a budget of only $21M plus marketing.

MISSING LINK is #8 with $4.3M, and a total of $12.9M from Laika and United Artists Releasing, a disastrous result for the animation studio.

US is #9 with $4.2M, a domestic total of $170.4M, and a global total of $245.7M, on a budget of only $20M plus marketing costs, giving Universal and Jordan Peele another major hit as this film winds down its theatrical run.

HELLBOY collapsed to #10 with $3.8M, and a total of only $19.6M domestic. Produced for $50M plus marketing, this will be a financial loss for all involved.

Next up is AVENGERS: ENDGAME kicking off on Thursday night, and expecting to Hulk-smash across the global marketplace as new records will be set and the summer movie season launches with the most universally anticipated blockbuster of the year.
