Ever look at a movie poster or trailer and immediately decide, “Yeah, I want to see that”? What about it made you think that? Movie posters & trailers are tools studios use to highlight commercial appeal to a target audience and sell their story’s hook to get butts in theater seats. But studios aren’t the only ones who use commercial appeal to sell - so can you!

Ben is here to help you discover the commercial elements you may have overlooked in your own story that you should highlight to help sell your project. He will help you identify the most “sellable” elements to emphasize in your story while also giving you exercises on how to practice showcasing them.

In these two weeks, Ben will not only give lectures to help you understand commercial appeal but will also help you refine your 30-second pitch as well as your one-page synopsis to make sure you’re crafting your story in the most commercially viable way possible.

About Your Host

Ben Everard began his career as an attorney at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, one of the most respected law firms in the United States. After three years at the firm, in which Everard litigated a variety of entertainment-related disputes, he co-founded a production company which produced the Discovery Channel television show HANG-MEN in 2014. 

Later that year, Everard teamed with Lawrence Grey in the capitalization of Grey Matter Productions. Grey Matter then produced one of 2016’s biggest commercial successes, LIGHTS OUT. The company has projects set up at multiple studios, and are developing projects with A-list talent, including Tobey Maguire, Steven Soderbergh, and James Wan among others. 

Everard is presently Grey Matter’s C.O.O., and also serves on many entertainment-related Boards. Currently, Everard serves on the Board of Directors for FilmL.A., Inc., the entity tasked with processing and approving all permitting applications in the greater Los Angeles area.

What To Expect

Immediately after registering, you will receive an Order Confirmation email that serves as the receipt for your registration. In the Order Summary section of this email you will find a link reading "CLICK HERE FOR INSTRUCTIONS" that will take you to your syllabus, instructions for submitting material (if any), and the link to join the Live Class. Sessions are conducted via video conferencing software ZOOM. You will receive a link to the recording of the session via email following the live session.

Payment Plans

Payment plans are available for most multi-week classes. For 4-week programs, your balance will be due the second week of class. For longer programs, the balance will be broken up into 3 or 4 payments with the final payment due prior to the final week of class. Please note that you are responsible for the full price of the class even if you decide not to complete the program for any reason.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel for a full refund up to 72 hrs. prior to the start of the class. Cancellations requested after this deadline will be ineligible for refunds.
